Steve Treviño
Wow. Steve Treviño just had an incredible run in Tampa this weekend. 5 of his 6 shows were sold out. Not that numbers are everything but I always find it interesting to see who lil ol' Tampy is willing to freshen up for, dust off their Crocs and come out to see.
More impressive to me were the laughs he got. They were like... ridiculous. Like massive rolling laughs. Like closer laughs, the whole show. About 10 minutes into each set, the crowd was with him. Which was important because each set was an hour minimum. But no one seemed to get bored or antsy. They got a little chatty but I think it was because they wanted to share their similar experiences, like he was just talking to them.
(Or maybe they were just nuts.)
He didn't seem to employ any crazy tactics, no obscure topics or complicated setups or controversial statements either. He jokes about marriage, family and parenting. Topics that have been covered before. Topics that can be challenging to liven up. Dude was just real. And the people responded.
The key is that he was so frikkin relatable. Like superpower level relatable. And it's a power he is definitely aware of as his Netflix special is aptly titled 'Relatable.'
I don't think I've ever seen crowds leave so happy. People said he was the best they've seen at the club and made many requests for his return. So even though you're getting this review at the end of his weekend, I'm sure he'll be back. In the meantime, check out the special, I hear it won't be on Netflix for too much longer.
I am aware of and equally nauseous of how much smoke I'm blowing up this guy's arse. But, it's true. We didn't really talk, he didn't tell me I was funny, or give me a free shirt, no koozie.. no ulterior motives here. For a bit of balance, I will say that hearing about a husband complain about their wife isn't my favorite topic but that doesn't mean I think he should stop. I think the real solution is that more wives should get on stage to tell their side of these stories. Bring some balance to this mfin' universe. #girlpower
Steve's show made people, some of the most miserable creatures on Earth, happy. Even if temporarily, I want to do that too. (With jokes, I'm not opening up a parlor, ya weirdo.)
